Welcome lessons include two main sub-topics:
1. Introduction to the country of the target language
2. Self- introductions.
The lessons in this category aim for young learners to discover that:
1. The world is made up of many countries, each unique in language, flag, artefacts and landmarks. Children can engage in word- searches, matching, recognising and identifying items or flags related to different countries.
2. Self-introductions in the target language; saying one’s name, age, school grade, where they live and expressing likes and dislikes. Children practice through speaking, writing, listening and reading skills, integrated with speech tasks, read-aloud and think-pair-share activities.
